American Power Conversion, the global leader in integrated critical power and cooling, announced that the company will remain at its current location in South Kingstown on Fairgrounds Road. APC had been reviewing other location possibilities, but decided that the South Kingstown, Rhode Island facility best suited the company’s needs.
The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) has been working with APC since the company’s acquisition last year to ensure the company, which employs more than 1,100 people, continues operating in the state. APC is now owned by France-based Schneider Electric, a $25-billon global specialist in energy management.
APC plans to spend approximately $3 to $4 million renovating its current facility, which was originally built as a manufacturing plan. Besides redesigning the building’s interior, some investment will go toward making the building more energy efficient. The improvements will be made over the next six to eight months.
“We are pleased that APC will continue to invest in Rhode Island and we look forward to making their next phase of growth a great success,” says Saul Kaplan, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation. “APC is a strong company that provides many Rhode Islanders with good, high-paying jobs.”
